Cambodia 2010 : From HCM to Phnom Penh

I just realised how difficult it is to journal down my old trips from 5 years ago. So when we were much younger, we tried the HCM - Phnom Penh - Siem Reap bus route, to save our cost to get to Angkor Wat.
The entire trip takes about 11 - 12 hours. Typically, you'll have to purchase your bus ticket from the central bus station at HCM, or for larger backpackers, they may also help you arrange for such transport.
You'll cross the border at Moc Bai, where you will pay for your visa to enter the Kingdom of Cambodia.
And then, the best part of it all was to cross over to the town of Neak Leong by bus while on the ferry!
Here's what it looks like on the ferry. I guess it's similar to the Penang ferry where you can drive on but at that point in time, I've never been to Penang by car. So all this was fascinating for me.
We will be staying at Phnom Penh for the night before continuing the journey to Siem Reap. On our way to the hostel, we passed by the Independence Monument.
After hiring a tuk-tuk (with much bargaining) to get to our hostel, we took a short trip to the Royal Palace. We also visited the Silver Pagoda.
You would also be entertained by some traditional music by these performers.
From the palace, we decided to walk back to our hostel. On our way, we passed by a night market which has quite a lot of vendors selling a variety of items like flowers and street food.
One of the exotic street food that we saw at the market.
Some of the colourful street food, similar to our lok-lok van in Malaysia.
Our snack for the day.
We continued walking around as it gets dark and stumbled upon this ice-cream shop which seems really popular among young families. It was by the river where you will be entertained by some musical fountain at a certain time of the night.

We headed back for a night's rest thereafter and to arrange for a guide for Angkor Wat in the next few days.
